This was the very first taiko concert for students who participated in "Taiko Class for Beginners" sponsored by the Ishikawa Taiko Association. The students practiced hard for six months. One of our members, Gono-chan has been teaching this class for the past six months for people who have never touched taiko. Everybody did very well. They played the instruments in many styles. It was very challenging and they had a lot of fun!
Yuzuriha performed Kochi and Matsuri in this concert as guest performers. They were so happy to participate because it was a very inspiring and heart-warming concert. It made them feel that this year must be a really lucky one.
Yuzuriha conducted concerts and workshops at the following three midwestern universities in the US in April, 2008. It was a very special experience for all of us.

We conducted a performance (Hanamichi, Mitsu-uchi, Kochi, and Kizashi) and a workshop at Koshomachi Junior High School. The children really enjoyed it. In particular, they had a lot of fun playing the taiko with Gonochi's good guidance!
We performed at Ikko-Ikki Festival for the first time. The stage was located outdoors, and it was an extremely hot day. We played Kochi and Kizashi. The audience's reaction was very good in spite of the weather and our worry that we may not be good at performing outdoors. We watched other groups' performances, too, and really enjoyed the festival atmosphere.
Three taiko groups--Kakeru, Daichi and us, performed at an elderly's dare care in Kanazawa. We performed Takeda-no-Komoriuta...Sunayama for the first time, as well as Kochi and Kizashi. We were very happy to see that the audience had a great time. The other groups were very good, too, and all of us are different from each other in characters, which must be fun to watch for the audience.
The weather forecast said it was going to rain, but it cleared up completely. We performed at a festival at Kakinokibatake, Kanazawa. The taiko performances started at 1:30, and Yuzuriha was the first group. We performed Kochi, Shingetsu, and Kizashi. The audience looked like they were really enjoying the music with a big smile, which made us enjoy the performance very much.
The weather was pretty tricky this day. It looked like it was about to rain any minute, but after all it didn't. Lucky! We performed "Kochi," "Shingetsu," and "Kizashi." The audience got bigger as we played, and it looked like they were having a good time.
We were a little worried because we knew Mami-chan couldn't come. Everybody in the audience was wearing a kimono, which makes a special atmosphere, too. But we played "Kochi," "Takedano-komoriuta" and "Mitsuuchi" and the people said they really enjoyed it. Some of them were singing as we played.
This is our fourth performance at a Friendly Concert sponsored by Ishikawa-ken Taiko Association. In the past, our performances were not what we hoped for, partically because we were not good at performing outdoors. But this time, we had a good time playing "Kochi" and "Shingetsu." The audience looked like they enjoyed the music, too! The weather looked threatening, but fortunately, it didn't rain until we finished our performance!
